Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM)

States should adopt an oil field NORM regulatory program that addresses identification, use, possession, transport, storage, transfer, decontamination, and disposal to protect human health and the environment. States may choose not to adopt such a program if they find, based on field monitoring data and other scientific information, that no NORM is present in oil and gas operations in the State, or that the levels of NORM present in oil and gas operations in the State do not present such a risk to human health or the environment to warrant a regulatory program.
